The team at FT Gas Control Systems is pleased to introduce its answer to the age-old problem of rain accessing a vent pipe. The new GasCap is designed to be a universal ideal venting rain cap that will fit onto any 1”/DN25 vent pipe.

Ethan Clinkscales of FT Gas Control explains: “I am sure that many plant engineers will remember the effective vent pipe caps which, for some reason became hard, even almost impossible, to source. During the course of our work, we would often be asked by plant and site maintenance engineers if we knew where they could source gas vent caps so, understanding the need, we decided to make them ourselves.”

The body of the new GasCap is made from cast aluminium, the obvious benefits being that the product is therefore both strong and light weight. There is more, however, to this modern interpretation of the vent cap than may be anticipated. Having worked on sites where gas was the key energy source, Ethan and his colleagues have been familiar with the clattering that could arise from the cap or lid coming into contact with the body following a gas vent or in very blustery weather conditions. They therefore incorporated the first of two unique features: a soft-closure seat that prevents the nuisance noise pollution of clattering. This undoubtedly will be welcome news for anyone who may be working in the vicinity of vent pipes.

The GasCap’s second unique element is the vent indicator. During a vent instance, the force of the gas will open the cap which will also push the vent indicator up and back. Once the vent is over, the cap will close but the indicator’s own weight will keep it back, flagging that the vent has opened during operation so that the engineers are aware and can investigate should they wish.

The GasCap is simple yet highly effective, making it the ideal solution for permanent venting systems that require gas – or indeed other emissions, for example steam – to vent freely to outside.
