Bespoke Pressure Reduction and Metering Station for a New Boiler Installation

Project Overview

A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer required a medium-pressure to low-pressure (MP–LP) Pressure Reduction and Metering Station (PRMS) to supply accurately metered natural gas to a new boiler system. The solution needed to be tailored to the site’s specific installation requirements while ensuring a fast and efficient commissioning process.

The Challenge

The client required a bespoke PRMS that could be integrated seamlessly with a new boiler installation. The unit needed to fit onto an existing vertical riser, installed by others, minimise on-site installation time, and provide accurate gas metering from day one.

Our Solution

FT Gas Control, in association with design house Zennergy International, designed and manufactured a bespoke stainless steel MP–LP Pressure Reduction and Metering Station using Gascat 254 regulators, specifically selected for their performance in low-pressure industrial and commercial applications.

To simplify installation, the PRMS was engineered as a fully assembled “plug-and-play” solution. The turbine meter’s PTZ corrector was pre-programmed before delivery, significantly reducing commissioning time on site.

As part of the project, our team:

• Designed the PRMS to suit the site’s vertical riser configuration.
• Produced detailed general arrangement drawings and a site-specific hazardous area drawing.
• Delivered the completed unit using a HIAB crane.
• Installed and commissioned the PRMS on the same day as delivery.
• Returned to install the external creep relief pipework once the GRP kiosk was in place.
• Will continue supporting the client by assisting with the boiler house commissioning and providing ongoing annual maintenance.

The Outcome

The client received a bespoke, high-quality gas pressure reduction and metering solution that was delivered, installed, and commissioned efficiently with minimal on-site assembly. The pre-engineered design reduced installation time, while comprehensive documentation and ongoing maintenance support provide confidence in the long-term operation of the new boiler system.
