FT Gas Is Part of a Low Carbon Future: Our Day at the HyNet Supply Chain Summit
Posted on Jun 13, 2025Our team at FT Gas Control Systems had the pleasure of attending the HyNet Supply Chain Summit at the Crowne Plaza in Chester yesterday – and what a day it was! Representing FT Gas were Nick Williams and Andy Fraser, who joined a packed room full of industry leaders, innovators, and supply chain partners, all focused on driving the UK’s transition to a low carbon economy.
The summit, hosted by the HyNet Alliance in collaboration with NOF and the North West Hydrogen Alliance, brought together an impressive mix of projects, developers and supply chain specialists from across North West England and North Wales. With HyNet aiming to make the region one of the world’s leading low-carbon industrial clusters, the energy and ambition in the room were unmistakable.
We heard updates from some of the major HyNet-linked projects such as Cadent’s hydrogen pipeline, EET’s Hydrogen Production Plant 1 and Evero’s bioenergy with carbon capture plans. But beyond the big names, what stood out was the spirit of collaboration. Everyone in the room, from infrastructure giants to smaller suppliers, was there to explore how we can work together to accelerate decarbonisation.
One highlight was the celebration of a major milestone: the UK Government and Eni’s confirmation of financial close on the Liverpool Bay CO₂ transport and storage system. This marks a significant step forward in making carbon capture a reality for UK industry.
As a company passionate about safe gas control systems, we came away inspired by the scale of opportunity. Events like this are a powerful reminder that real climate action happens not just through policies, but through partnerships. It was great to see the supply chain being given a platform to both listen and actively engage and shape what comes next.
Over 400 delegates attended the Summit and Andy and Nick engaged with many stakeholders and heard about the latest development stages of HyNet North West. The FT Gas duo are excited about the potential collaborations that lie ahead, are proud to be part of the growing clean energy ecosystem in the region and arelooking forward to continuing the momentum.
There were high levels of interest in the hydrogen pressure reduction systems that the FT Gas team has designed, built, commissioned and installed in its role as a specialist in gas to power as well as transmission. The team’s expertise has seen it play roles in a number of “world first” decarbonisation and energy transition projects – including the world’s first hydrogen-fueled crematorium and the world’s first hydrogen-fired clay bricks.
Two particular products from the portfolio were the topics of multiple conversations. One was the compact hydrogen pressure reducing station, from our supplier, Gascat. Monobloc is a high pressure 400 bar to millibar full PRS, fully stainless steel for hydrogen and carbon steel for other gases. Its obvious standout feature and benefit is that it’s only one tenth of the size of standard rigs.
The second object of much discussion was the popular Kleerband® flange protector. It elongates the life of the asset by protecting the flange face, studs and gaskets on raised face, full face and ring joint flanges from atmospheric corrosion encountered in gas plants, metering stations, offshore platforms, refineries, chemical, processing, gas and wastewater plants and underground pipelines. A clear benefit of Kleerband® is that engineers can perform a visual inspection of the surface of the flange without the need to remove the flange protector.
Nick Williams commented from the stand: “As members of NOF Energy, FT Gas was delighted to display its products, systems and accessories. Andy and I also learned of opportunities to supply into Hynet North West, the innovative hydrogen energy and storage project that will unlock a low carbon economy for the North West and North Wales, positioning the region at the forefront of the UK’s drive to Net Zero. We at FT Gas are very pleased to continue playing an important role in by assisting with the UK’s net zero target ambitions.”
