Innovative Chartered Engineer and IGEM member joins FT Gas
Posted on Apr 24, 2025A respected Chartered Engineer (CEng), who has worked in the gas sector Industry for over a decade, has joined the ranks at FT Gas Control Systems Ltd. Ethan Clinkscales has an enviable track record in the design, construction and management of pressure containing plant operating up to 80bar, which will prove invaluable in his role, delivering the latest innovations in natural gas and hydrogen systems.
Asked what attracted him to the role of Engineering Manager at FT Gas Control, Ethan replies: “Rather than merely talking about hydrogen as a theoretical solution to decarbonisation, FT Gas Control is actively delivering on this front. FT Gas Control is recognised as specialists in gas to power and transmission systems so is in a prime position to deliver on hydrogen while still offering high quality natural gas products.”
Andy Fraser, Managing Director of FT Gas Control, is very pleased that Ethan has come on board. “Ethan’s diverse experience in the gas industry covering engineering roles in gas metering, transmission and distribution will be a major, key contribution to FT Gas Control’s ongoing success,” comments Andy.
“It goes without saying that Ethan’s experience is very impressive but what really stands out for me is Ethan’s obvious energy and enthusiasm for application of his expertise and seeking out innovative ways to deliver projects. He is committed to continuous improvement and so the phrase ‘it’s how it has always been done’ is anathema to him, meaning clients can expect effective solutions that demonstrate compliant innovation, in line with his track record.”
Ethan gained his Master of Engineering (MEng) when he studied Mechanical & Offshore Engineering at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. He has been responsible for delivering multi-million-pound critical LP – HP gas infrastructure portfolios to secure the nation’s energy security. While at a previous employer, he completely overhauled their approach to compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 improving operational efficiency while not compromising safety standards and quality. Ethan has also been a panel member for updating gas industry standards with his latest efforts being to improve IGEM/TD/13.
“I look forward to contributing my knowledge and skills to FT Gas Controls’ expertise in delivering gas infrastructure that support the UK government ambitions for sustainability and energy security,” concludes Ethan. “The team at FT Gas Control realises the potential of natural gas and hydrogen to the net zero objectives. I shall be working at the cutting edge of net zero to achieve demonstrable, practical and measurable outcomes and benefits.”
FT Gas Control Systems designs, manufactures, installs and commissions gas pressure control systems for natural gas, biogas, CNG and hydrogen from Class 2500 to millibar. The Staffordshire-based business is respected for its role in decarbonisation and sustainability, offering more efficient control and pure hydrogen systems and hydrogen pre-trimmed systems. The FT Gas approach can also ensure the future of methane / hydrogen mix without the inconvenience of replacing any client existing non-hydrogen ready control devices.
